Rumour Mill: Chelsea win race for Cavani, Paulinho to Spurs, Bale plays good cop, Isco, Benteke

Rumours

The Rumour Mill has taken a few days off and, like Australia’s pre-Ashes problems, it’s built up quite a bit.
We’re back and there’s plenty to get through, so let’s get straight into it.
CHELSEA-NAPOLI AGREE CAVANI DEAL
He’s close to the most in-demand player on the planet and it seems Chelsea have won the race for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.
Napoli's official radio station Radio Marte has claimed a £49.3m deal has been struck between the two sides.

We bring you the best - and worst - rumours doing the rounds during the European off-season.
"We have received news in the office from a very reliable source that Napoli have sealed a deal with Chelsea for Cavani's sale," a statement from the station read.
The news comes after reports that Manchester United had entered the race for the gun forward, who topped the Serie A scoring charts with 29 goals last season.
BALE PLAYS GOOD COP OVER MADRID MOVE
Tottenham’s Welsh wizard Gareth Bale won’t force a move to Real Madrid, instead leaving it to the two clubs to reach an amicable agreement, Spanish paper Marca claim.
It’s widely reported the Spanish giants have tabled an £85m bid, but Spurs have repeatedly claimed their best player isn’t for sale. Madrid will continue to tempt the North London club. Will they cave in and sell up?
ADAMS SAYS ARSENAL COULD ROO WAYNE CAPTURE
Most of the talk out of Arsenal about Wayne Rooney centres on how good a player he is and how the club could easily afford a player of his stature.
But one ex-Gunner isn’t so sure. Tony Adams has voiced his concerns over whether Rooney could handle London life and the off-field pressures that go with it.
"It would be a massive risk for me," Adams told talkSport.
I don’t think it’s a question of finances. I think it’s his temperament and mentality. London is a different animal. I think it takes a different type of player [to handle it].”

I wouldn’t like to spend my money on Wayne.”
BRAZIL STAR SETS SIGHTS ON SPURS
On fire with Brazil at the Confederations Cup, Corinthians star Paulinho says he “couldn’t turn Tottenham down if they made me an offer”.
"It would be a fantastic opportunity to play for Tottenham."
Spurs have had their eye on the 24-year-old midfielder for some time and are ready to shell out the £17m needed to activate his release clause. We’ll stick our neck out and say this one’s done like a dinner.
HIGUAIN UPDATE
Last week it was reported Gonzalo Higuain had agreed to Arsenal’s £125,000 a week wage offer and was ready to make the move from Madrid to north London.
The London Evening Standard, quoting the player’s father, is reporting the deal is nearing completion.
“Nothing has yet been signed but I assure you the negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage. We won't agree a contract before the clubs reach a transfer deal,” Jorge Higuain said.
A frontline featuring Higuain, Podolski, Giroud and Walcott will certainly have Gunners fans licking their lips ahead of the new season.

ISCO ‘EXCITED’ BY MADRID
He’s hot property on the transfer market, but it appears Manuel Pellegrini and Manchester City will miss out on Malaga sensation Isco.
Spanish paper AS are claiming Isco will spurn advances from former boss Pellegrini along with Monaco and Dortmund to join Real Madrid, who are currently without a coach.
"Madrid excites me,” the classy playmaker said.
"They are one of the best teams in the world.”
FAMILY TIES COULD SEE THIAGO AT UNITED
It’s the one that won’t go away. Will Thiago Alcantara join David Moyes’s Manchester United?
The Mirror thinks so, and is claiming the Barcelona midfielder’s family could play a huge role in deciding his future.
The player’s father, former Brazil international Mazinho, says his son should choose United ahead of a whole host of suitors, including City, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
Another factor is Thiago’s brother, Barcelona B player Rafinha, could also be headed to Everton on loan.
The Mirror report United are willing to take him on if it means securing his brother, who was instrumental  in Spain’s Under-21 European Championship victory.
PSG’S BLANC CHEQUE TO LUIZ
Laurent Blanc will be announced as Paris Saint-Germain’s new coach and the Frenchman intends to make David Luiz his first signing, the Daily Mail reports.
Veteran PSG defender Alex wants to head home to Brazil, paving the way for Chelsea’s Luiz to join the mega-rich French outfit.
BENTEKE TO SPURS?
David Villa’s interest in Fiorentina has paved the way for Tottenham to make a move for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, the Daily Star is reporting.
The 22-year-old was unstoppable in his first season in the Premier League, netting 19 goals, and Spurs are ready to make a £20million to get their man.
Benteke's desire for Champions League football has north London rivals Arsenal keeping a close eye on the situation.
IS FELLAINI WORTH IT FOR GUNNERS?
Arsenal are having second thoughts about a £50million outlay- £100,000 a week wages and a £22million transfer fee- to pick up Marouane Fellaini from Everton.
The Gunners are keen to bring the Belgian midfielder to the Emirates, but are already spending big, with Higuain’s imminent move.
Russian side Zenit St Petersburg have no such financial concerns and have entered the race for the 25-year-old’s signature, while City’s rumoured interest has cooled since Yaya Toure’s contract extension.
BEST OF THE REST
Everton and Norwich are in a battle to sign relegated Wigan forward Arouna Kone. The Ivory Coast star banged in 13 goals last campaign and would be a great capture to the side that activate his £5m buy-out clause.
Fiorentina will “do anything” to sign Bayern Munich’s goalscoring machine Mario Gomez. Forza Italia are reporting it will take £15m to get the German, who is surplus to requirements at Bayern following their big spending spree.
The Mirror claims Sunderland’s summer clear-out will include Stephane Sessegnon, with Paolo di Canio willing to accept an offer of £8million for the attacking midfielder.  It follow’s goalkeeper Simon Mignolet’s imminent departure to Liverpool for £11m while Hull and Stoke City are keen on skipper Lee Cattermole.
Sky Sports sources understand that Cardiff City have agreed a fee with Blackpool for winger Tom Ince, who was close to joining Liverpool last season.
