It was her 31st victory in a row and the longest single-season streak in 13 years.
After two foot surgeries and treatment for blood clots in her lungs, she came back with a tremendous energy. This was clearly evident when she delivered a groundstroke which went sky-scraping in the air.
She won her first and only French Open title in the year 2002. This time she was desperate to repeat it once again. But the loss she faced last year in Paris was hard for her to overcome. She was so deeply affected that she wished to change it. Williams practiced hard at Mouratoglou tennis academy. No matter how demoralizing that loss was, her determination and hard work enabled her prized win.
Serena Williams is primarily a baseline player. She is supreme in her powerful and consistent serve, return of serve, and forceful ground strokes from both her forehand and backhand. Williams` forehand and double-handed backhand are considered to be among the most powerful shots in the women`s game.
Williams is the only player to have achieved a Career Slam in both singles and doubles. She is the most recent player, male or female, to have held all four Grand Slam singles titles simultaneously from 2002 to 2003. She has total of 16 Grand Slam singles titles to her name.
In women’s singles, Serena is on the top of the list but she also tops the women’s doubles category. She and her Sister Venus Williams is one of the unbeatable pairs with 13 Grand Slam doubles titles.
Venus Williams has 44 career single titles. Her 35-match winning streak from the 2000 Wimbledon Championships to the 2000 Generali Ladies Linz tournament final is the longest winning streak since January 1, 2000.
Serena is a woman with lots of optimism; she is a woman who knows how to fulfil her dreams with utter power and sheer determination.
How many of us are really able to stand up to win despite the difficulties? But this charismatic woman knew how to pass through the difficult path of her life and come out triumphant.
At 31, she is young at heart combined with all her power packed performances. “I really believe age is a number at this point, because I have never felt so fit. I feel great. I look great," she said in lighter vein. "If I see someone that`s 31, I`m like, `You`re old.` Then I`m like, `I`m 31.` But I don`t feel it at all" said Serena with a glow of victory on her face after winning her second French Open title.
